Collage and Paper Arts with Lee

10AM PDT (12PM CST, 3PM EST)

Zoom Online Class Taught by Lee Fairchild

In this class we will learn how to create amazing works of art out of nothing but paper. We will look at famous artists who create collage, and we will learn techniques for layering and creating pop-up art.

This class is best suited for ages 5 and up, but younger students can participate with some adult scissor supervision (to not need supervision, your child needs to be capable of cutting and gluing independently).

Materials needed for this weeks classes:

  • Various papers of different colors (any of these): construction paper, printer paper, magazines, wrapping paper, tissue paper etc. 

  • Scissors

  • Glue (glue stick or glue bottle)


FRIDAY - Pop up paper construction

We will learn how to cut and fold paper to make our own pop-up cards. 

Materials needed: various papers, scissors, glue

Optional: markers, colored pencils

THURSDAY - Tessellations

We will look at the artist M.C. Escher and learn how to make a tessellation, or tiled pattern. We will make our own tessellated pattern in Escher’s style.

Materials needed-pencil, paper cut into a 3x3 square, scissors, tape, larger white paper (8.5 x 11 or bigger), colored pencils (or crayons or markers)

TUESDAY - Layered paper landscapes

We will learn about layering and foreground and background while making a collaged landscape. 

Materials needed: various papers (whatever you have on hand-construction, magazine, tissue, wrapping paper, etc), scissors, glue

MONDAY - Matisse inspired collage

We will learn about the artist Henri Matisse, his life and his art. We will learn the difference between organic and geometric shapes as we create a collage in his style. 

Materials needed: paper of various colors, scissors, glue
