Designer Camp is returning to the Orange County in partnership with South Coast Collection/SOCO & The OC Mix & Chuck Jones Center For Creativity ! OC Designer Camp 101

DATE:  July 16 - 20 / 9am - 3pm

Ages:  11-17

Designer Camp 101 explores the vast careers in the design industry by implementing the principles and elements of design.  Students explore the design world covering Art, Branding, Fashion, Interior Design, Photography, Styling, Trend Forecasting and much more.  

Throughout the week, students will work in teams on a culminating design project that will be presented to parents and the local design community.

New Junior Girl Scout Badge Workshop!

CALLING ALL JUNIOR GIRL SCOUTS!Our Junior Drawing Creativity Workshop will gather Girl Scouts (8-11 years old) from many troops for imaginative collaboration. You'll experiment with tools as you learn to draw some of Chuck's most famous characters. You'll use your imagination to create a unique character. And you'll learn hands-on techniques that bring your character to life with shading and perspective. 

Our teaching artists will guide scouts toward earning a drawing badge wiht content relevant to Girl Scouts requirements. $25 per scout. All materials are included. This class is scheduled for Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 1 to 4 PM. Click here to purchase this class.

Intermediate and Advanced Painting Class with Robert Richert

Learn from one of the best!The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity is now hosting Intermediate and Advanced painting classes for adults previously experienced in acrylic or oil painting. Students will work with our talented Teaching Artist Robert A. Richert, who is a realist painter. Robert earned a BA degree in illustration and biomedical art at Cal-State, Long Beach. He has been a professional artist for 33 years and his paintings hang in fine art galleries around the country. During his early career Robert specialized in wildlife subjects. In 1982 he won the California Duck Stamp contest and in 2002 he was awarded the Connecticut Duck Stamp.  Today Robert specializes in acrylic paintings of California seascapes and landscapes, and several have sold for over five figures.

For the first class, please bring 3-5 pieces of your artwork or images from your portfolio. The actual artwork is preferred. The process will begin with a 30 minute consultation. Robert will evaluate your skill level and understanding about the fundamentals of painting. Fundamentals include: color theory, composition, perspective, light and form, structure and space, drawing skills, brush strokes, and more. This will allow Robert to teach around your established skill set and provide you with constructive, positive feedback. During classes students are allowed the option to begin a brand new piece or bring a painting in progress.

Take advantage of the opportunity to further hone your paintings skills and build greater confidence in your abilities under the tutelage of a professional!  

Classes will take place at the Center each Monday from 7:30-9:30PM. The class contains 6 sessions spread over 6 weeks; September 21st – October 26th. The total cost for the 30 minute consultation and the 6 week session is $299. Supplies will not be provided; each student must bring his or her own brushes and paints and take them home at the end of every class. Irvine Classical Players Perform "Peter and the Wolf" at Chuck Jones Center for Creativity!

BUY TICKETS HERE!Please join the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity as we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Emmy Award-winning, “Peter and the Wolf”. Enjoy an evening’s recital with the Irvine Classical Players and the Seraphim Symphony in this fundraising benefit for the Center and these fine Orange County musicians. All proceeds will benefit the non-profits. This musical evening will take place Friday, May 29, from 7 to 9 PM at the Center, 3321 Hyland Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. Tickets are available by clicking on this sentence.

“Peter and the Wolf” was originally commissioned in 1936 by the Central Children’s Theater in Moscow with the intent to engage young people at an early age with a love of classical music; Prokofiev finished the work in just four days. In 1995 Chuck’s character designs became the basis for an live action/animated TV special written, produced, and directed by George Daugherty, that starred Lloyd Bridges and Kirstie Alley. It won an Emmy the following year for best children’s television special.

The Center is pleased to partner with Irvine Classical Players and Seraphim Symphony to bring you this selection of music from this musical masterpiece. Please join us!

The Young Authors’ Faire is a community literacy showcase celebration for students that include opportunities to meet authors, illustrators, storytellers, and engage in hands-on literacy activities. This is the second year that OCDE is partnering with the OC Public Libraries at three regional locations, including: Aliso Viejo, La Habra, and Tustin. All school districts will be assigned to a specific library location. CADETTE BOOK ARTIST BADGE

About his abstract photography class Victor says, “ In the Art Unexpected class, we’re looking more closely at the everyday things around us and framing them with our camera so they might appear to be something else that’s strange, or beautiful, or scary, or fun.  The images are so terrific and surprisingly wonderful pieces of art that we never expected were there. In a frame on the wall they are AMAZING! ”

 

 

Day 1:

Cameras are provided by the instructor and handed out in the beginning of class.

Learn to use the camera, go discovering in a field shooting session and your new photographs will be reviewed immediately afterward with Mick Victor

 

Day 2:

See a big screen presentation of everyone’s best photographs and engage in an open, fun and informative discussion about “Art Unexpected” images captured!

Artist Jorge Pacheco To Be Spotlighted at the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity on Saturday, February 16, 2013

Please welcome guest artist, Jorge Pacheco, to the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity on Saturday, February 16, 2013 from 10am-2pm. He's bringing over 26 years of experience as a cartoonist, comic book artist, caricaturist, and children's book illustrator to the Center.

Like comic books? Jorge's worked with DC Comics, Archie Comics and Marvel Comics.

Interested in illustrating children's books? Jorge's done it! Some of his illustrations include "Children In Motion" by Bettyjoe Cooper and "The Official Princess Rule Book" by Lisa Chapman...to name a few!

Thought of creating your own comic strip? Jorge's done it! Check out his syndicated comic strip "CEO Dad".

 

Come down to the Center and meet Jorge. He'll be ready with pencil and paper to sketch with you, show you a few tricks and guide you to find your own creativity!

About Jorge Pacheco

Jorge has been a professional Cartoonist/Illustrator the past 26 years and  a graduated of the Joe Kubert School of Comic Book  Arts. Mr. Pacheco has worked for almost every major comic book company, Dark Horse Comics, DC Comics, Tokyopop, and Zenescope Comics and was staff artist for Harvey Comics from 1990-1995. He has drawn many famous licensed characters, such as Casper the Friendly Ghost,The Flintstones, Bullwinkle and Rocky to name a few. He also worked for Jim ( Garfield) Davis and had his own syndicated strip CEO Dad. Mr. Pacheco has also illustrated 6 children's books. And was a guest speaker at the Charles Schulz museum and is very excited to be a part of the team at the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity! Girl Scout Troops 549 and 26 earned their Junior Drawing Badge at the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity on Sunday, January 27. Fourteen enthusiastic Girl Scouts were ready to draw from the inspirations of Chuck Jones. During the 2-hour class, they

Experimented with different materials, such as light and hard charcoal, and Palomino Blackwing pencils

Learned how to add shading their drawings

Learned how to draw with perspective

Used their imagination like a graphic artist

Created and took home a portfolio of their days' work

 

We thank our Teaching Artists, Jennifer "Jejo" Sleeper and Deborah "Debbie" Sleeper, for leading the class with grace and wit!

New Art Class For Kids Begins January 9!

Artables--At the Center with Gina LatoraIt begins with glue and goes from there. There will be painting -- not always with a brush -- your child will be surprised at the 'tools' that are used as well as the 'paint'. Adult attendance is required; please wear your painting attire!

Cost per 5-week session: $50.00 per artist, plus a $15 (cash, due at first class) material fee. Ages 1 to 12 years old welcome. These are great classes for the whole family.

Classes begin January 9, 2013. Three different sessions to choose from!

Gina Latora, artist and educator, has been providing art classes for children and preschoolers in Orange and Los Angeles Counties for over seventeen years. Her "Artables" class is particularly well-suited for preschoolers, and will also captivate children of all ages.
